Family Time is Holy - Spiritual Resources for Marriage

<

Below is a guest post by an old friend. He sends out a regular email with spiritual observations and I thought this one was exceptionally good for this site. And, appropriate for this time of the year when we spend extra time with family. Hope you enjoy it and it makes you think, as it did me.

...Understand that family is a description of the interaction of people.

Sometimes it is good, and sometimes it is rocky. But the descriptor defines something else, it defines commitment, determination, and love. It provides you with shelter, security, support, and love. It helps you to grow, interact, socialize, and love. It gives you opportunities to share, accomplish, build, strengthen, and love. It encourages you to become whole, influence, guide, and love.

In God’s Book, “Family Time Is Holy” and meant to be protected. When God made Adam there was not an help that was suitable for him, so God made Eve (not Steve) to be exactly what Adam needed. After He made the woman, God said of His creation that it was very good. (Gen 1:31)

That beginning of family was carried down through the generations and when Jesus walked the earth He sanctioned marriage by attending the wedding feast and participating in the festivities. (John 2:1-11) Therefore today we should understand that “Family Time Is Holy.”

What that translates to us is that we should value as a wonderful treasure our families. That means that we will nurture, enjoy, and keep that family close to God. (Eph 6:4).

Family time is a part of being holy. 1 Peter 1:15 tells us to be holy in all manner of conversation– or in every facet of our living. And that includes our relationship in our family. To be Holy is to be set for the use of God. It is seen in the act of sanctification for God. It is found in faith determined to serve God as a vessel. It is appointed to men because of the gift of Jesus and through His blood’s atonement.

Be holy. Act, live, think, feel as though you are for God’s special use today. Enjoy the holiday as a part of family pleasing unto God. (Watch out for the sin of gluttony!)

And Because He Lives, Have A Great Day!

    Hi Charlie,

I love the idea of family time is holy time. It means spending time with our family is something which scared and which should not be compromised.

I always make it a point to visit and have lunch/dinner with my mother at least once a week, to keep in touch and show some care. I think this is really important.

In this modern, we all need to pay more attention and focus to spending quality time with our loved ones. Thanks for the reminder.
