Break time! Here’s some children’s views on love and marriage. Thought you’d enjoy this funny video format set to music rather than just reading these. These children address weighty topics like falling in love and when it’s ok to kiss someone!
While most of these will make you laugh, you’ll find some of these children’s comments very perceptive.
I especially like the response to “how to make love endure” by Natalie, age 9: “Don’t say you love somebody and then change your mind … Love isn’t like picking what movie you want to watch.”
Note: I can’t control the ads that appear at the end of the video. Hope it’s nothing offensive to you. I use the free Revver video embed service because it has the best video quality and allows for longer videos than other services.

Seen the new movie Why Did I Get Married?
The movie is about 4 married couples with all kinds of marriage issues - including: infidelity, making unkind remarks, bickering, drinking, unemployment, workaholism, and dealing with past wounds. The message of the movie is to be honest and communicate with each other.
Got me to thinking, why did I get married? Thinking back over 30 years ago, to be honest my reasons ranged from “that’s what you did…get married and start a family” to “I really like her and want to spend my life with her.”

Most couples don’t write their own wedding ceremony vows. Three reasons that I can think of.
One, it’s hard to do. Alot of couples have told me they were going to write their own wedding vows and then backed out after giving it a try. They just couldn’t seem to get something together.

While waiting to perform a wedding the other day, I was speaking to a guest and she told me she had recently divorced her second husband. She explained that it was shortly after they married that she realized he was addicted to his work. The good side is that he was very successful and a great provider - but she had no life with him.
I’ve heard this kind of story many times, and is one reason marriage preparation is so important. One of the things I often say to couples about premarital preparation is that it can “reduce the number of unpleasant surprises.”
This all reminded me of a list of 25 dating red flags I’ve given to young people in teaching about dating. It may not be an easy thing for a couple who are engaged to do this, but if there is a problem, NOW is the time to find it and deal with it, right?

As you prepare for marriage, spend some time thinking about your marriage years down the line. When you look back 10, 20 or 50 years from now, what do you want to be able to say about your life together as husband and wife?
Don’t know if you are a Martina McBride fan, but she does seem to have strong family values. That certainly comes out in the song she sings called All The Things We’ve Never Done.
Very romantic I think, and maybe fodder for you and your partner to talk about your goals and priorities in life.
There may be some things in life you don’t achieve but what greater accomplishment than to look back over your marriage one day and know that you have been faithful to one another over the years.
Here are the lyrics to McBride’s song:

You can read the Good Wives Guide below with some amusement.
I’ve read that this was advice given to newlywed women in the 1950’s.
Hopefully, it’s a fun way to get to a very important subject.
The husband-wife role expectations is a key area for couples to discuss during marriage preparation, and there are sections in my main marriage preparation course that cover it.
